About the Project
What is
Your Voice is a nonprofit online platform that provides specialist domestic violence crisis counselling, intervention, as well as fundraising. It provides 24/7 free online service for anyone who is experiencing domestic violence. It also provides you with sufficient fundraising information if you are willing to help people who are suffering from domestic violence.
Problem Statement
Recent global prevalence figures indicate that about one in three (35%) of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Despite an increase in media attention, domestic violence still often goes unreported. Many victims' stories still are not heard as only a little over half of the cases are reported to authorities because of hesitation or ignoring.
Solution
Your Voice brings about the features to enable you to counsel with specialists anytime if you are suffering from domestic violence but don’t know whom to talk with. You can also find various related events that might inspire and help you with your situation. You can also join our community if you care about domestic violence victims and would like to donate to help.

Social Study
Recent global prevalence figures indicate that about one in three (35%) of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Reports show that even the countries with strong legal systems on prevention of family violence still have rates for this phenomenon.
Family violence is a multifactor problem and to be addressed successfully, it requires joint efforts of all the involved actors: state, civil society, law enforcement system, media, and international organizations.
Despite an increase in media attention, domestic violence still often goes unreported. Many victims' stories still are not heard as only a little over half of the cases are reported to authorities because of hesitation or ignoring.

Personas
Based on the scenario and target user group, I created the following personas to keep in mind.
User Journey Map
Based on the persona Alice, I constructed the user journey map to help me understand the ways how the users interact with the product.
Preliminary Design
P & P Wireframes
I kicked off the design by sketching out low-fidelity concepts on paper.
Lo-Fi Prototype
Usability Study
After completing the lo-fi prototype, I conducted usability testing with 4 participants. Based on their feedback, I consolidated the affinity diagram.
Based on the insights achieved from the usability study, I listed the actions that I need to do to refine the design. I also created the prioritization plotting to make sure design iteration can be completed within the timeline.

What I Learned
During the whole process of design, I am gradually aware of how severe domestic violence is all around the world. I am a lucky person. I have never personally experienced domestic violence. I still might not be able to truly empathize with users.
It was through this small project that I really felt the responsibility of a designer to make a positive impact on the world. A good design can save lives, and a good design takes thorough consideration in not just visual appeals, but also accessibility, user environment, and the underrepresented user groups.
I don’t want to stop this project. Your Voice is only a preliminary demo of the online platform to support people who are suffering from domestic violence. I will continue to carry it on. I want to hear the users’ stories and keep on applying empathy to every detail of Your Voice. I want to thank this case study for reminding me why I love doing what I do.
